Showzam! Fever Hits Schools Across Lancashire
Youngsters are being encouraged to test their creative skills as 75,000 Showzam! 3-D pop-up characters are delivered to schools across Lancashire.
Showzam! organised by Marketing Blackpool with Professor Vanessa Toulmin from the University of Sheffield, is Blackpool’s annual festival celebrating Circus, Magic and New Variety and this year it returns for 10 days from February 15th - 24th.
Three designs of pop-up characters - Mike the Magnificent, Clive the Showbiz Tiger and Maureen the Magician’s Assistant - have been sent to more than 600 schools throughout the county in an effort to encourage children to attend the festival during the half-term holidays.
And with more than 150 performers treading the boards, walking the streets and quite simply dazzling audiences during the festival, organisers are hoping to attract thousands of children and families.
Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “Children and families are essential ingredients to the success of Showzam! There are so many different workshops, shows and events both free and paid for that will appeal to a wide age group of people.
“Each year we send an exclusive Showzam! collectable to thousands of school children and we are delighted that this year it is the turn of the Pop-Up as it’s fun to make and is a great way of promoting the festival.”
Events at Showzam! include the Wookey Hole Youth Circus, Romany Diva of Magic, Spy Monkey’s Spookshow, The Last Waltz, the increasingly popular Carnival Ball, a massive variety of street performers including Musical Ruth and The Grannies, and Mr Albert’s Big Finish.
There will also be a wide selection of tours and talks including Pleasure Beach Resort Costume Tours; Palaces of Delight, presented by Professor Vanessa, exploring the beauty and wealth of Matcham architecture in Blackpool as well as the Winter Gardens and The Blackpool Tower & Circus Heritage Tour.
